HOT LIST #14 Week Ending in 5/14/10
7th GRADE HOMEPAGE
AFRICAN DRUMMING - On Wednesday, in conjunction with the Music program, we hosted an African Drummer. Students heard drumming and had an opportunity to participate in making the music. Ask your child how it went!
CLOTHING REMINDER - With the warmer weather, we reminded students this week that clothing can not be too low on top or on the bottom (that means no underwear can show and tank tops need to be two fingers wide), and it can also not be too high at the waist (tummy showing) or leg (no shorty shorts/skirts).
SCHOOL VISIT/CONFERENCE REMINDER
• Please remember to check in at the office to receive a visitor badge if you are going into the building.
• Teachers are required to perform school duties at various times during the week and sometimes only have one planning time per day in which they need to prepare materials for students. Please refrain from impromptu "teacher meetings" before and after school or during the day. Thank you.
• If you need to meet with a teacher, please call Anne Crosby to set up a conference with the TEAM. Often when something is happening in one subject, information from all teachers is needed to properly assess and develop a plan.
• In preparation for your conference, please consider writing responses to these questions and emailing cfoxtree@lincnet.org so that your answers can be shared with the Team.
1. What is one goal you have for your child during the 09-10 school year?
2. Are there any personal or family issues that may impact your child’s progress?
LOOKING AHEAD
• Olympic Day will be all day Friday, June 11 (Raindate Monday)

Discussion about expectations and assessment. The discussion will center around building a community and why it is essential for the success of all in the art room. Then, students will explore and then recreate the compass rose using personal symbols.
• Why do artists redesign familiar tools?
• How does design and color impact a tool or instrument?
• Cardinal directions point to North, South, East and West, what are other types of direction?

Ms. Hall - Drama
Due Thursday (10/8)
In order to consider the question of whether teenagers in the 1930's were (or were not) more resilient and able to endure hardship than teenagers of today, we need to have an idea about what life was like for teenagers in the early 1930's and the Great Depression.
Task: Using the internet, history book, encyclopedia, novel, film, or any other source material, find out something about what life was like in the U.S. during the early 1930's. Focus on things that might have affected the every-day life of young people. Make notes about your findings.
Notes should be in your own words (no print outs of web sites, please!). List around 15 bullet points.
Photos can be included to supplement your notes.
Please cite (name) your source or sources.

ASK ME ABOUT MUSIC
Ask your child about their music test! All 7th graders recently had a test on rhythm and meter. Any student that earned a score of 79 or lower we asked to have their parents sign a slip and were invited/required (depending on the score) to take a retake. A handful of tests did go home to be signed, but I have not had any test-slips returned! Retakes will only be given to those who return slips showing that they are interested in improving their score! Feel free to contact me with any questions. - Karen Sheppard
